We came across a selection of Historical, and rather iconic, vintage photography examples that were colored in to look like they were taken, just yesterday. I think it really adds a different perspective to the way we’ve viewed the past – even when I think about the 1920s, (yes sometimes I do sit around thinking about the 1920s – is that weird?) the image in my mind is almost always black and white or that sepia tone from earlier photography.
Sort of a parody to today’s idolatry of the past, adding Sepia, black and white tones, aged looking filters to our ‘selphies’ and Facebook photos to set a “Vintage” impression or tone. Adding color to these actual vintage photos is kind of the opposite move. We like it! Check out these artists who specialize in this very ironic, backwards post-editing technique:
